Worried by the lack of basic amenities such as electricity and portable water in Ngo town, the Headquarter of Andoni Local Government Area, some youths of the LGA have embarked on an advocacy move to draw attention of government at all levels to the plight of the people of Ngo town.
The youths under the aegis of Ngo Youth Forum, told newsmen that lack of good drinking water in the community has forced many people to drink contaminated water with the attendant health implications. The President of Ngo Youth Forum, Anthony Ngeri appealed to the Rivers State Government to come to the aid of the people by providing them with portable water.
He said “the nature of water in my place is highly adulterated because we have what we call zinc rain that even stains our buckets. You cannot drink it because of its harsh nature, we therefore need a good portable drinking water in Andoni Local Government Area, Ngo precisely.
“Our people are suffering bitterly, so am using this medium, this opportunity to call on the Executive Governor of Rivers State to come and help us. We need light, we need water, our people are suffering”.
The President of Ngo Youth Forum also lamented that small businesses in Ngo town that depend on electricity are now battling to survive due to the absence of electricity supply in the area for a very long time.
“If you don’t have what we call ‘I pass my neighbour’, you can’t do any trade, you can’t do any business because there is no light in Ngo. That is how it affects the people, we need light so that the common person, the barbing saloon, welders, kiosk owners can benefit from it.
“What we have in Ngo is a big generating plant which used to be run by the Local Government Council but since the beginning of this administration and as I speak, we don’t have light. The Council has not bought diesel, officials of the Council don’t even go to the electrical power house to find out the problem. That is why we are calling on the State Governor to come to our rescue”. He concluded.
